A). = ἐπικαμπής , curved, τοῖχοι, τείχη, Ph. Bel. 80.11 , 82.3 ; ἐ. τάξις an order of battle in which one or both wings formed an angle with the centre, being either thrown forwards to attack the enemy in flank (cf. ἐπικαμπή), or backwards so as to meet a flank attack, Plb. 6.31.2 , D.S. 17.57 ; also as a march formation, Ascl. Tact. 11.1 .
II).. Subst. ἐπικάμπιον,, = ἐπικαμπή , Arr. Tact. 26.7 ; ἐπικαμπίου τάξις Ael. Tact. 31.4 ; ἐν ἐπικαμπίῳ, opp. ἐν μετώπῳ, Polyaen. 4.3.22 , cf. Plb. 5.82.9 ; also of fleets in naval warfare, Id. 1.27.4 .
