A). thing seen in sleep, in appos. with ὄνειρος, θεῖός μοι ἐνύπνιον ἦλθεν ὄνειρος a dream from the gods, a vision in sleep, came to me, Od. 14.495 , Il. 2.56 ; ἐ. τὰ ἐς ἀνθρώπους πεπλανημένα Hdt. 7.16 .β/; ἐ. παιδός the vision of a boy, AP 12.125 ( Mel.): used adverbially, ἐ. ἑστιᾶσθαι 'to feast with the Barmecide', Ar. V. 1218 ; κακοδαίμον’ οὕτω δεσπότην οὐδ’ ἐ. ἰδών Men. Pk. 169 ; later κατ’ ἐνύπνιον AP 11.150 ( Ammian.); cf.sq.
2). after Hom., = ὄνειρος , dream, ὄψις ἐνυπνίου the vision of a dream, Hdt. 8.54 ; ὄψις ἐμφανὴς ἐνυπνίων A. Pers. 518 , cf. 226 , Pl. R. 572b ; ἐνυπνίῳ πιθέσθαι Pi. O. 13.79 ; ἐ. ἰδεῖν Ar.
