A). ἐκτείνω, βραχίονας Theoc. 25.270 :— Hom. has this form only, in the sense to stretch out (on the ground), lay low, ἐξετάνυσσ’ ἐπὶ γαίῃ Il. 17.58 :— Pass., lie outstretched, ὁ δ’ ὕπτιος ἐξετανύσθη 7.271 ; ἐξετανύσθη ἄμπελος it spread out all ways, h.Bacch. 38 .
2). stretch tight, ἐκ δ’ ἐτάνυσσ’ ἱμάντα βοός ( f.l. for ἐν δ’ ) Od. 23.201 ; [δέρμα] Pi. P. 4.242 .
3). extend, ἐξετάνυσσας ὁδόν Epigr.Gr. 1078.4 (Cilicia).— For S. OC 1562 , v. ἐξανύω. —Poet. word, used by Hp. Fract. 43 . [ῠ usu., but Anacreont. 35.5 (s.v.l.).]
