A). hearken or give ear to one, ὡς ἔφατ’· οὐδ’ ἐσάκουσε.. Ὀδυσσεύς Il. 8.97 , cf. Hdt. 4.133 , al.: c. acc., φωνὴν ἐσάκουσαν h.Cer. 284 , cf. E. Hec. 559 , etc.: c. gen. pers., S. Aj. 789 ; τῶν ἐμῶν λόγων E. IA 1368 : c. dat. pers., Hdt. 1.214 , etc.; τινί τι Id. 9.60 ; give way, yield to a request, Th. 1.126 , 3.4 ; of God, τινός or τῆς προσευχῆς LXX Ps. 4.2 , etc.:—so in Pass., of the prayer, Ev.Luc. 1.13 ; of the person, Ev.Matt. 6.7 .
2). in Poets, simply, hear, τούτου λέγοντος εἰσήκουσ’ ἐγώ, ὡς.. S. Tr. 351 ; τίνος βροτῶν λόγον τόνδ’ εἰ.; Id. El. 884 , cf. Aj. 318 , Axiop. 1.12 ; ζῶντ’ εἰσακούσας παῖδα E. El. 416 .
3). perceive, feel effect of, τοῦ ἐγκεφάλου ἐσακούσαντος τοῦ τρώματος Hp. Prorrh. 2.14 .
II). Pass. in strict sense, ἔξωθεν εἰς τὰς οἰκίας εἰσακούεται μᾶλλον ἢ ἔσωθεν ἔξω Arist. Pr. 903b13 ( v.l. εἴσω ἀκ. ).
