1). of the woman, give herself in marriage, i.e. wed, c. dat., γαμέεσθαι τῷ ὅτεῴ τε πατὴρ κέλεται Od. 2.113 ; γημαμένη ᾧ υἷϊ· ὁ δ’ ὃν πατέρ’ ἐξεναρίξας γῆμεν 11.273 : abs., Hdt. 4.117 ; σοὶ μὲν γαμεῖσθαι μόρσιμον, γαμεῖν δ’ ἐμοί A. Fr. 13 ; εἰς τύρανν’ ἐγημάμην I married into a royal house, E. Tr. 474 ; γήματο δ’ εἰς Μαραθῶνα, i. e. she married Herodes of Marathon, IG 14.1389 i 5 (ἥν τ’ ἐγήματο is f.l. for ἥ τ’ ἐγ . in E. III). Pass., to be taken to wife: hence, marry a husband, Il.cc. ad init., PGrenf. 2.76.11 (iv A. D.), etc.; rarely in correct authors, Poll. 3.45 .
