A). ἀvυτάρ IG 1.477 :—Conj., but, nevertheless, marking a strong contrast; freq. in Hom. to introduce an objection or correction, Il. 1.506 , etc.; in form of a question, E. Hec. 258 , X. ll. cc. infr., etc. it begins a sentence or clause, and, in apostrophe, is placed after the voc., Ἕκτορ, ἀ. που ἔφης truly thou didst say, Il. 22.331 ; Ἕκτορ, ἀ. σύ μοί ἐσσι πατήρ .. ἀλλ’ ἄγε νῦν ἐλέαιρε 6.429 ; γε is freq. added, with a word between, 16.573 , E. Med. 84 : ἀ. sts. answers to μέν, more emphatic than δέ, Il. 21.41 , Od. 3.298 , Hdt. 6.133 , al.; ἀεὶ μὲν δὴ .. ἀτὰρ οὖν καὶ τότε Pl. R. 367e , cf. Prt. 335d , Tht. 172c ; πῶς παισὶ μὲν πληθύεις ἀτὰρ .. οὐ πέμπεις τινά; S. Tr. 54 , cf. Pl.
