Ἅρπυιαι,(Ἀρεπ- on a vase from Aegina, Arch.Zeit. 40.197 , cf. EM 138.21 , and prob. ἀρέπυιαι ἀνηρέψαντο shd. be read in ll. cc.;
A). v. ἀνερείπομαι ) αἱ, the Snatchers, a name used in to personify whirlwinds or hurricanes (so τυφῶσι καὶ ἁρπυίαις ); 1.333 ἅρπυιαι ἀνηρείψαντο , 1.241 20.77 : acc. pl., Th. 267 ; πτηνά τ’ Ἁρπυιῶν γένη , cf. 22.5 : rarely in sg., 2.188 : as pr. n., 113 Ἅρπυια Ποδάργη, mother of the horses of Achilles, ; also name of one of Actaeon's hounds, 16.150 Fr. 245 ; cf. ἁρπυίας· ἁρπακτικοὺς κύνας,
