A). cut off, ἶνας μεδέων ἀπέθρισεν Archil. 138 ; ἄκρας ὡς ἀπέθρισεν κόμας E. Or. 128 , cf. Hel. 1188 , AP 6.107 ( Phil.), etc.; καυλόν Dsc. 3.70 ; of persons, μνηστῆρας Nonn. D. 48.96 ; regul. form -θέρισα in Ael. NA 1.5 , Apollod. 1.9.22 ; ἀπεθέρισα τοὺς προφήτας σου LXX Ho. 6.6(5) :— Med., aor. ἀπεθρισάμην AP 5.236 ( Agath.); ἀποθρίξασθαι, of the tonsure of monks, Procop. Arc. 1 , al., perhaps from a mistaken etymology, cf. ἀποθρίξαντες τὴν χαίτην Ael. ap. Ar.Byz. Epit. 149.13 .
