A). bruised meal of raw corn, esp. barley or wheat (hence with κριθίνη or πυρίνη added), used for poultices, Morb. 2.31 , Nat.Mul. 27 , 10.282 , 19.156 ; applied without water, 12.863 ; written divisim, μετὰ ὠμῆς λύσεως 3.24 , Arching. ap. 12.675 , Gp. 14.7.7 . (Compd. of ὠμός and Ἄλῠσις 'grinding', cf. ἄλεσις, ἀλέω, ἄλευρον, and foreg.; also perh. O ealu 'ale':—the form ὠμῆς λύσεως by popular etymology: εἰρῆσθαι δὲ ὅτι οὐ φρυγόμενον ἀλήθεται AB 318 .)
