I). in Hom., tribe, clan, κρῖν’ ἄνδρας .. κατὰ φρήτρας, ὡς φρήτρη φρήτρηφιν ἀρήγῃ choose men by clans, that clan may stand by clan, Il. 2.362 ; of the Persian royal clan (the Achaemenids), Hdt. 1.125 .
