A). love art, practise an art, of Athena and Hephaestus, Pl. Prt. 321e ; περὶ [ἐμπειρίας] Phld. Mus. p.89K.; περὶ τὰ ἔξω Epict. Ench. 29.7 ; περὶ τὴν παρρησίαν Plu. 2.74c , etc.; ὑπέρ τινος Ael. VH 2.2 ; φ. πρὸς τορευτὰς καὶ τοὺς ἄλλους τεχνίτας to converse with them on art, Plb. 26.1.2 ; use terms of art, Phld. Sign. 7 .
II). use or employ art or artifice, Plb. 16.30.2 , Plu. 2.142b , 2.1050c , etc.: c. inf., D.S. 13.82 .
III). treat or arrange artistically, συλλαβὰς ποικίλως φ. D.H. Comp. 15 ; represent in art, ἀγέλην (in a mosaic) Chor. 1.33 p.11 F.-R., cf. 3.6 p.49 F.-R.; treat by the rules of art (i.e. alchemy), Olymp.Alch. p.91 B. ( Pass.):— Pass., to be made or furnished by art, παράδεισος τοῖς ἄλλοις πολυτελῶς πεφιλοτεχνημένος D.S. 14.80 ; πρός τι Id. 3.37 ; θηλὴ πεφιλοτεχνημένη an artificial teat, Sor. 1.115 ; to be represented artistically, πᾶσα ἀπόνοια ἐν ἐκείνοις πεφιλοτέχνηται, in Trag., Jul.
