ὑπογραφεύς
ὑπογρᾰφ-εύς, έως, ὁ,
A). one who writes under another's orders, secretary, amanuensis, (iii B. C.), 647.50 Crass. 2 , Dem. Enc. 44 ; mihtary secretary, adjutant, (iii B. C.). 105.5
2). person who has drafted or signed a deed on behalf of another, ὑ. τῶν ὁμολογούντων PAmh. 2.110.24 (i A. D.), cf. PMeyer 13.17 (ii A. D.), etc.; παρεχούσης ὑπογραφέα ὑπὲρ αὐτῆς καὶ μάρτυρας τοὺς ἑξῆς ὑπογράφοντας PMasp. 23.10 (vi A. D.).
3). at Athens and elsewh., the clerk of the Assembly, = ὑπογραμματεύς (the clerk of the Council being ἀντιγραφεύς), Sch Eq. 1253 (but in the text ( 1256 ), ὑ. δικῶν appears to mean a signer of accusations on behalf of another), cf. IG 14.209 (Acrae).
