A). bore, pierce through, ὡς ὅτε τις τρυπῷ (opt.) δόρυ νήϊον ἀνὴρ τρυπάνῳ, οἱ δέ τ’ ἔνερθεν ὑποσσείουσιν ἱμάντι (cf. τρυπανία) Od. 9.384 , cf. Hp. VC 18 , Pl. Cra. 387e ; ἐτρύπησεν τῷ ποδὶ τὴν βελόνην (of a very thin man) AP 11.102 ( Ammian. or Nicarch.), 308 ( Lucill.); with double acc., πόνος με τὸν πόδα τ. is stabbing into, Luc. Ocyp. 169 ; cf. ἁλία (B):— Pass., τετρυπήσθω τὸ τρῆμα let the hole be bored, Hp. Steril. 222 ; δῑ ὠτὸς .. τρυπωμένου through well-bored ear, i. e. open to hear, S. Fr. 858 (codd. Plu., but ῥυπωμένου is prob. cj.); τὰ ὦτα τετρυπημένος having one's ears pierced for ear-rings, X. An. 3.1.31 ; ψῆφος τετρυπημένη the pebble of condemnation which had a hole in it, opp. πλήρης, Aeschin. 1.79 , Arist. Ath. 68.2 , 69.1 ; ἐτετρύπητο ἄλλη ἔξοδος Luc. Alex. 16 .
