A). an alternating wind, esp. one which blows back from sea to land, opp. ἀπογεία, Arist. Pr. 940b22 , 945a6 , Thphr. Vent. 31 , 53 ; tropaei (venti), Plin. HN 2.114 ; τ. is said to have meant ἡ ἐναντία πνοή in S. Fr. 1103 (where τριπαία, τρίπαια, τριπαῖα codd.).
II). metaph., λήματος, φρενὸς τροπαία, a change in the spirit of one's heart or mind, A. Th. 706 , Ag. 219 (both lyr.); but τ. κακῶν a change from, release from .. , Id. Ch. 775 .
