Τρῐβαλλοί (on the accent, v. Hdn.Gr. 1.158 ), οἱ,
A). the Triballi, a people on the borders of Thrace (v. 4.49 ): hence as a Comic name for barbarian gods, Av. 1529 , 1533 , 1627 ; ούδ’ ἐν Τριβαλλοῖς ταῦτά γ’ ἐστὶν ἔννομα 241 ; καὶ ποὺ μὲν καλὸν τὸν πατέρα θύειν, οἷον ἐν T. Top. 115b23 :—Adj. Τρῐβαλλικός, ή, όν, 4.49 .
II). a slang term for young fellows who lounge about taverns, etc., like the 'Mohocks' of Addison's time, 54.39 :—hence the Comic exaggeration Τρῐβαλλο-ποπᾰνό-θρεπτα μειρακύλλια, tavern-bred Mohocks, 75.3 (Casaubon for Τριβαλλο-πανό-θρεπτα: Meineke suggests Τριβαλλο-μαμμό-θρεπτα, and Kock defends the Ms. reading).
