τρήρων
τρήρων, ωνος, , ,(τρέω)
A). timorous, shy, in Hom. always epith. of doves (i. e. of περιστεραί, the genus of which πέλειαι are a species, acc. to Eust. 1262.61 ), τρήρωσι πελειάσιν Il. 5.778 , h.Ap. 114 , cf. Ar. Av. 575 ; πέλειαι τρήρωνες Od. 12.63 ; τρήρωνα πέλειαν Il. 22.140 , 23.853 , cf. A.R. 3.541 ; κέπφοι τ. Ar. Pax 1067 .
II). fem. Subst. trembler, = περιστερά (metaph. of women), Lyc. 87 , 423 . (Since the Subst. is implied for Hom. in πολυτρήρων, τ. is perh. always a Subst., name of the genus, and τ. πελειάδες is to be compared with ἴρηξ κίρκος, σῦς κάπρος, etc.)
