Epict. 3.15.5 :— Pass., to be made the subject of a tragedy, Isoc. 9.6 , 15.136 , Str. 9.5.22 , etc.; ὁ τραγῳδούμενος στέφανος famous in tragedy, Plu. Alex. 35 ; τὰ τραγῳδούμενα subjects of tragedy, Id. 2.837c .

II). metaph., tell in tragic style, declaim, ἡλίκα νῦν ἐτραγῴδει D. 18.13 , cf. 19.189 ; ὀνόματα τ. dress up words, Pl. Cra. 414c :— Pass., ib. 418d , Phld. Oec. p.24J. ; also, exaggerate, τραγῳδεῖν ἂν δόξειε μᾶλλον ἢ ἀληθεύειν would seem to be romancing, Gal. UP 16.4 ; μὴ τ. τὸ πρᾶγμα (sc. τὸ ἀποθανεῖν) , ἀλλ’ εἰπὲ ὡς ἔχει Arr. Epict. 4.7.15 ; στολαὶ τετραγῳδημέναι exlravagant, flaunting robes, Antiph. 36 ; τετραγῳδημένοι pompous, braggart, D.S. 5.31 .
