τέρσομαι, Pass., with aor. inf. τερσῆναι, τερσήμεναι (v. infr.), as if from ἐτέρσην:—
A). to be or become dry, dry up, ἕλκος ἐτέρσετο παύσατο δ’ αἷμα the wound dried up and the blood was staunched, Il. 11.267 , 848 ; οὐδέ μοι αἷμα τερσῆναι δύναται 16.519 ; θειλόπεδον τέρσεται ἠελίῳ is baked by the sun, Od. 7.124 ; εἵματα δ’ ἠελίοιο μένον τερσήμεναι αὐγῇ 6.98 ; ὅταν [τὰ ῥάκεα] ἐν ἡλίῳ τέρσηται Hp. Mul. 1.11 ; ὄσσε δακρυόφιν τέρσοντο his eyes became dry from tears, Od. 5.152 .
II). Act. first in later Ep.( Hom. using only τερσαίνω), aor. subj. τέρσῃ (-σει codd.) Theoc. 22.63 ; inf. τέρσαι Nic. Th. 96 , 693 ( v.l. τέρσον both times); opt. Med. τέρσαιο ib. 709 :— Hsch. cites ἐτέρρατο· ἐξηράνθη. (Cf. Lat. torreo, tostus, Skt. tŕṛ[snull ]yati 'to be thirsty'.)
