ā-vŏlo, āvi, ātum, 1, v. n., to fly forth or away: per aetherias umbras, Cat. 66, 55: auspicanti pullos avolāsse, Suet. Galb. 18 fin.; Dig. 41, 1, 5.—Hence, of persons, to flee away, to go away quickly, to hasten away (opp. advolare, to flee to): experiar certe, ut hinc avolem, Cic. Att. 9, 10: avolat ipse, Verg. A. 11, 712: citatis equls avolant Romam, Liv. 1, 57, 8; 3, 61, 7 (al. advolat).—So of dying: Critoni non persuasi me hinc avolaturum, that I shall flee from this world, Cic. Tusc. 1, 43, 103.—Of the vanishing of pleasure: Fluit voluptas corporis et prima quaequo avolat, Cic. Fin. 2, 32, 106.
