mūnĭcĭpĭum, ii, n. municeps, a town, particularly in Italy, which possessed the right of Roman citizenship (together with, in most cases, the right of voting), but was governed by its own laws; a free town (cf. municeps; syn.: civitas, oppidum): Sex.
