Hērōdes, is, m., = Ἡρώδης. A king of Judea, Hor. Ep. 2, 2, 184; Macr. S. 2, 4: Herodis dies, the Sabbath, Pers. 5, 180. —Hence, adj.: Hērōdĭānus, a, um, of Herod.—Only as subst. plur.: Hērōdĭā-ni, ōrum, m., the followers of Herod, Herodians, Vulg. Marc. 3, 6 al.— Surnamed Atticus, a celebrated Greek sophist under the Antonines, Gell. 1, 2; 9, 2; 19, 12.— A freedman of Atticus, Cic. Att. 6, 1, 25.
