functĭo, ōnis, f. fungor, a performing, executing, discharging; a performance, execution. In gen. (Ciceron., but very rare): labor est functio quaedam vel animi vel corporis gravioris operis et muneris, Cic. Tusc. 2, 15, 35: ut iis jucundior esset muneris illius functio, Cic. Verr. 2, 3, 6, § 15.—* Transf., of things: functionem recipere per solutionem, i. e. perform the part, supply the place of, Dig. 12, 1, 2, § 1.— In partic. (post-class.). Payment of taxes, Cod.
