Fannĭus, a, the name of a Roman gens: 1. C. Fannius Strabo, son-in-law of Laelius, introduced as a speaker by Cicero in de Rep. and Lael.; 2. His son of the same name, who was consul A. U.C. 632, Cic. Brut. 26, 99 sq.; id. de Or. 3, 47, 183; 3. C. Fannius, an historian, contemporary with Pliny the younger, Plin. Ep. 5, 5, 1 sq.— Derivv. Fannĭus, a, um, adj., of or belonging to Fannius, Fannian: lex, a sumptuary law introduced by the consul C. Fannius, Gell. 2, 24; Macr. S. 2, 13.— Fannĭānus, a, um, adj., the same: conturbat me epitome Bruti Fanniana, Cic. Att. 12, 5, 3 Orell. N. cr.: charta, manufactured in the establishment of Q.
