          Aetna, ae (in Gr. form Aetnē, ēs, in good MSS. of Ov.), f., = Αἴτνη [αἴθω, to burn].  The celebrated volcano of Sicily, now Mongibello or Ætna, in the interior of which, acc. to fable, was the forge of Vulcan, where the Cyclopes forged thunderbolts for Jupiter, and under which the latter buried the monster Typhōeus.—Form Aetna, Cic.
