Pass. πίλνᾰμαι (with no act. form πίλνημι), draw near to, approach, c. dat., ἅρματα χθονὶ πίλνατο the chariots went close to the ground, Il. 23.368 ; ἐπʼ οὔδει πίλναται 19.93, cf. A.R. 4.952, Simm. 7 : abs. with two subjects, Γαῖα καὶ Οὐρανὸς πίλνατο earth and sky threatened to encounter (in the storm), Hes. Th. 703 :— πίτναντο must be read for πίλναντο with Aristarch. and some codd. in Il. 22.402 ; conversely πίλναντο for πίτναντο in Euph. 63.2.
