consisting of three μέτρα; i. e. in iambics, trochaics, and anapaestics, of three συζυγίαι (of two feet each); but in dactylics, etc., of three single feet: hence the iambic verse of six feet is called by the Greeks ἴαμβος τρίμετρος, Hdt. 1.12; so τόνος τ. trimeter verse, ib. 174; ἔπη τ. Pl. Lg. 810e; τρίμετρον, τό, Ar. Nu. 642, Arist. Po. 1447b11 (pl.).
