  "definition": "στάθμη -ης, ἡ [στα-, ἵστημι.] A device employed by carpenters, etc., a line rubbed with chalk or the like and drawn tight along a surface so as to leave on its removal a straight line marked thereon for the workman's guidance : ὥς τε σ. δόρυ νήϊον ἐξιθύνει Il. 15.410 : ἐπὶ στάθμην ἴθυνε [δοῦρα] (to the line) Od. 5.245. Cf. Od. 17.341 = Od. 21.44, Od. 21.121, Od. 23.197.",
