ὀπηδέω
ὀπηδέω [cf. ὀπάζω.] 1 To be in attendance on a person, attend him as a follower, retainer or henchman Il. 2.184, Il. 24.368. Of an inanimate object, to be carried or borne by a person, accompany him: ἀνεμώλιά μοι ὀπηδεῖ [τόξα] Il. 5.216. Of a divinity, to cause his protecting or favouring power to go with or attend on a person, act as his protector or guardian: διί, ὅς θʼ ἱκέτῃσιν ἅμʼ αἰδοίοισιν ὀπηδεῖ Od. 7.165= 181. Cf. Od. 9.271, Od. 19.398. 2 Of abstractions, to attend upon a person, be attached to him, be given, granted, bestowed on him: ἀρετὴν σήν, ἥ τοι ὀπηδεῖ Od. 8.237. Cf. Il. 17.251.
