  "definition": "κύκλος -ου, ὁ. Acc. pl. (besides the regular form) κύκλα Il. 5.722, Il. 18.375. A ring or circle. 1 Each of a number of concentric circular pieces of metal forming a shield : ἔντοσθεν βοείας ῥάψε θαμειὰς χρυσείῃς ῥάβδοισι διηνεκέσιν περὶ κύκλον (corresponding with each circle, but no doubt covering the joints) Il. 12.297 (the pieces of leather being sewed together with the wire), ἀσπίδα, ἥν πέρι κύκλοι δέκα χάλκεοι ἦσαν Il. 11.33. Sim. of both an outer circle of metal and the corresponding inner circle of leather : διὰ δʼ ἀμφοτέρους ἕλεν [ἐγχείη] κύκλους ἀσπίδος (tore apart the metal facing and the leather backing) Il. 20.280. 2 A chariot-wheel Il. 23.340. In pl. κύκλα denoting rather vague quantity than plurality, a set of chariot-wheels : ἀμφʼ ὀχέεσσι βάλε κύκλα Il. 5.722. So of wheels under a tripod Il. 18.375. 3 A semi-circular range of seats for judges : ἥατʼ ἐπὶ ξεστοῖσι λίθοις ἱερῷ ἐνὶ κύκλῳ Il. 18.504. 4 A cordon of men drawn round a hunted beast Od. 4.792. 5 In dat. κύκλῳ, in a circle, round about : χέε δέσματα κύκλῳ ἁπάντῃ Od. 8.278.",
