  "definition": "αἴθουσα -ης, ἡ. 1 A portico or covered colonnade running round the αὐλή Il. 6.243, Il. 20.11 (in the palace of Zeus), Il. 24.238 : Od. 8.57, Od. 20.176, 189, Od. 21.390, Od. 22.449. Used as a sleeping-place for visitors : δέμνιʼ ὑπʼ αἰθούσῃ θέμεναι Il. 24.644 (for Priam and the herald in the dwelling of Achilles) := Od. 4.297 (for Telemachus and Peisistratus in the house of Menelaus) = Od. 7.336 (for Odysseus in the palace of Alcinous), ἐν λεχέεσσι ὑπʼ αἰθούσῃ Od. 3.399 (of Telemachus in the house of Nestor) = Od. 7.345 (of Odysseus in the palace of Alcinous). 2 A portico across the gateway of the αὐλή: ὑπʼ αἰθούσῃ αὐλῆς Il. 9.472. Cf. Il. 24.323: Od. 3.493= Od. 15.146 = 191.–αἰθούσης θύρας, the gate of theαὐλή Od. 18.102 (named thus from the portico across it).",
