Ἀλκίνοος (ἀμύμων, βασιλεύς , δαΐθρων, θεοειδής , θεοείκελος, θεῶν ἄπο μήδεα εἰδώς, ίερὸν μένος, κρείων, μεγαλήτωρ, πάντων ἀριδείκετος λαῶν). King of the Phaeacians. Son of Nausithous, husband of Arete (the daughter of his brother Rhexenor) and father of Laodamas-2 Halius-2, Clytoneus and Nausicaa. His parentage Od. 7.56; his house described Od. 7.84, and his orchard and garden 112; Odysseus approaches him and Arete Od. 7.141, he raises Odysseus from the hearth 167, promises him conduct to his home 317, Od. 8.26; entertains him with games Od. 8.97, and with the singing of Demodocus 254 ; proposes the giving of gifts to him Od. 8.389; asks for his tale Od. 8.572; puts the gifts on board the ship Od. 13.20, dispatches Il. 15.64 ; for fear of Poseidon proposes to give up conducting strangers Od. 13.171; etc.
