κνημίς
κνημίς -ῖδος, ἡ [κνήμη, leg between knee and ankle], greave, a plate of metal, fitted to the leg and padded for comfort. It was held in place partly by the spring of the metal, partly by straps or buckles behind. It might be compared to a football shin guard, but the greave inclosed the leg nearly all round. See Figs, 11, 15, pp. 55, 60.
