Sweet-smelling, fragrant: χαῖται Il. 1.529, νύκτα Il. 2.57 (prob. referring to the fragrance of a still warm night), ὕπνος Il. 2.19 (prob. a transference of epithet from νύξ). Cf. Il. 5.338, 369, Il. 8.434, Il. 10.41, 142, Il. 13.35, Il. 14.172, 177, 178, Il. 18.268, Il. 21.507, Il. 23.187 (here no doubt with a reference to preservative properties of the divine food; cf. ἀμβροσίη 2), Il. 24.341, 363: =Od. 1.97 = Od. 5.45, Od. 4.429 = 574, Od. 6.283, Od. 9.404, Od. 15.8, Od. 18.193.
