θυμός

θυμός -οῦ, ὁ. The heart, breast, soul, mind (cf. ἦτορ, καρδίη, κραδίη, κῆρ, φρήν). I As the seat or a seat (when coupled with φρήν, φρένες, κραδίη hardly to be distinguished therefrom) 1 Of life; hence a Vitality, the vital powers, strength (cf. ἦτορ 2.a.α, κῆρ 2.a): ὀλίγος ἔτι θ. ἐνῆεν Il. 1.593. μνηστήρ -ῆρος, ὁ [as μνηστή.] Dat. pl. μνηστήρεσσι Od. 1.91, Od. 2.395, Od. 15.315, Od. 19.2, Od. 21.3, etc. μνηστῆρσι Od. 1.114, Od. 2.21, Od. 4.790, Od. 20.5, Od. 22.4, etc. A wooer or suitor : μνηστήρων δίκη Od. 18.275. φρονέω

φρονέω [φρεν-, φρήν.] (ἐπι-) 1 To have (good) understanding or intelligence : νόον πύκα περ φρονεόντων Il. 9.554, Il. 14.217. To exercise the understanding : ἄριστοι μάχεσθαί τε φρονέειν τε (in fighting and counsel) Il. 6.79, φρονέων πεφυλαγμένος εἶναι (taking heed) Il. 23.343. To understand something, comprehend, see : γιγνώσκω, φρονέω Od. 16.136 = Od. 17.193 = 281. 2 App., to have feeling or sensibility : ἔμʼ ἔτι φρονέοντʼ ἐλέησον Il. 22.59 (he seems to mean that old as he is age has not taken away sensibility to suffering). 3 To be minded, inclined, disposed, bent, in a specified way : φρονέω διακρινθήμεναι ἤδη Ἀργείους καὶ Τρῶας (my mind or wish is that they be . . .) Il. 3.98, φρονέω τετιμῆσθαι Διὸς αἴσῃ (i.e. I am satisfied with such honour) Il. 9.608, ἰθὺς φρονέων (with straight onward course) Il. 12.124, ἰθὺς φρόνεον (turned not aside in their purpose) Il. 13.135.
