καρτερός -ή, -όν [κάρτος. Cf. κρατερός.] 1 Strong, mighty, powerful, stout, staunch: πολέμῳ ἔνι κ. ἐσσι Il. 9.53. Cf. μέλλω

μέλλω 1 To be about, be going, to do something, to be on the point of doing it (sometimes tending to pass into (2)). With fut. infin. : θήσειν ἔτʼ ἔμελλεν ἄλγεα Il. 2.39, ἔμελλέ μιν δώσειν Il. 6.52. Cf. Il. 6.393, Il. 11.22, Il. 15.601, Il. 19.98, Il. 23.544, etc. : ὅτʼ ἔμελλε πάλιν οἶκόνδε νέεσθαι Od. 6.110, Ἀγαμέμνονος φθίσεσθαι κακὸν οἶτον ἔμελλον (I have just escaped his fate) Od. 13.384. τάχα

τάχα [ταχύς.] 1 Swiftly, quickly, fast, at speed : ἐγγύθεν ἦλθον Il. 5.275 : εἶσι τέταρτον [ἔτος] Od. 2.89. 2 In short space, soon, before long, quickly, speedily, shortly : τάχʼ ἄν ποτε θυμὸν ὀλέσσῃ Il. 1.205. Cf. Il. 2.193, Il. 3.436, Il. 6.52 (was just on the point of doing so), Il. 9.573, Il. 11.654 (i.e is as likely as not to do so), Il. 14.8 (referring εἴσομαι to εἴδω III.1), Il. 16.71, Il. 19.131, Il. 23.606 (easily), etc.: Od. 1.251, Od. 2.40, Od. 4.514 (was just on the point of doing so), Od. 8.202, Od. 14.265, Od. 19.69, Od. 20.393, Od. 21.369 (you will soon find that it is ill to . . .), Od. 22.78 (will soon find that this is the last of his shooting), etc. 3 Without delay or loss of time, with all speed, at once, forthwith, straightway: τάχα δʼ ἄμμε διαρραίσεσθαι ὀΐω Il. 24.355.
