ξεῖνος

ξεῖνος -ου, ὁ. 1 A foreigner or stranger. a A foreigner, one belonging to another land : ἐπʼ ἀνθρώους ξείνους ἠδʼ οἷσιν ἀνάσσεις Il. 24.202. One not of one's own immediate folk : ξεῖνοί τε καὶ αὐτοῦ βώτορες Od. 14.102. Cf. Od. 17.382. b A stranger, one who comes into, or finds himself in, a land not his own : εἰσῆλθε μυκήνας ξ. Il. 4.377. Cf. Il. 4.387 : Od. 7.24, Od. 18.106 (wanderers or vagabonds), Od. 19.333 (travellers), Od. 21.292.
