ἀθέσφατος -ον [app. ἀ-1 + θέσφατος.] Thus, not suited to the utterance of a (beneficent) god; hence, portentous, terrible, terrifying: ὄμβρον Il. 3.4, Il. 10.6: ὤρινε θάλασσαν ἀθέσφατον (so that it became . . . ) Od. 7.273. Of winter nights, endless Od. 11.373, Od. 15.392. Unlimited in amount: σῖτος Od. 13.244.– In number Od. 20.211. Excessive in amount: οἶνος Od. 11.61.
