ἁδινός

ἁδινός -ή, -όν. App. orig. expressing quick incessant motion. Hence 1 Of bees, flying in swarms Il. 2.87. Sim. of flies Il. 2.469. Of sheep, thick-thronging Od. 1.92 = Od. 4.320. Of the heart, beating, throbbing Il. 16.481: Od. 19.516. Of weeping, thick-coming, vehement Il. 18.316, Il. 22.430, Il. 23.17, Il. 24.747. Of the Sirens, trilling their song Od. 23.326. 2 In neut. ἁδινόν, as adv., of the expression of grief, with thick-coming bursts, vehemently: στοναχῆσαι Il. 18.124: γοόωσα Od. 4.721. Of the incessant lowing of calves Od. 10.413. So in pl. ἁδινά: στεναχίζων Il. 23.225. Cf. Il. 24.123, 510: Od. 7.274, Od. 24.317. So also in neut. comp. ἁδινώτερον: κλαῖον ἁ. ἤ τʼ οἰωνοί Od. 16.216.

κῆρ

κῆρ τό[app. for κηρ-δ, καρδίη, κραδίη.] Only in nom. and acc. sing. and in dat. sing. κῆρι. (Cf. ἦτορ, θυμός, καρδίη, κραδίη, φρήν.) 1 The heart : ἔνθα φρένες ἔρχαται ἀμφὶ κ. Il. 16.481. 2 The heart, breast, soul, mind, as the seat or a seat a Of life; hence vitality, the vital powers, strength (cf. θυμός I.1.a) : φθινύθεσκε κ.
