Acc. δρῦς Il. 11.494, Il. 23.118. 1 An oak Il. 11.494, Il. 12.132, Il. 13.389 = Il. 16.482, Il. 14.398, 414, Il. 18.558, Il. 23.118: Od. 12.357, Od. 14.328 = Od. 19.297. 2 A felled oak or a piece thereof: ξύλον δρυός Il. 23.328. Cf. Od. 9.186, Od. 14.12, 425. 3 In phrase οὐκ ἀπὸ δρυὸς οὐδʼ ἀπὸ πέτρης Il. 22.126: Od. 19.163, an obscure proverbial expression. In Il. 22. the sense seems to be giving utterance to thoughts from any source as they arise, with unconsidered or idle words.
