ἐφέλκω

2 draw to oneself, attract, αὐτὸς γὰρ ἐφέλκεται ἄνδρα σίδηρος the very sight of iron (i.e. arms) draws men on, i.e. tempts them to use them, Od. 16.294, 19.13; ὕδωρ ἐπʼ ἑωυτὸν ὁ ἥλιος ἐ. ἐφέλκω

ἐφέλκω [ἐφ-, ἐπι- 5, ἐπι- 8.] 1 To draw on or induce to an indicated course of action. In mid.: αὐτὸς ἐφέλκεται ἄνδρα σίδηρος Od. 16.294 = Od. 19.13. 2 In pass., to be dragged, to drag or trail along: τὸ δʼ ἐφέλκετʼ ἔγχος (along with the wounded man) Il. 13.597. Cf. Il. 23.696.

μνηστύς

μνηστύς -ύος, ἡ [as μνῆστις.] A wooing or courting : παύσεσθαι μνηστύος Od. 2.199. Cf. Od. 16.294= Od. 19.13.
