ἄπτερος

without wings, unwinged, Hom. only in Od., and always in phrase τῇ δʼ ἄπτερος ἔπλετο μῦθος the speech was to her without wings, remained unuttered, opp. ἔπεα πτερόεντα, 17.57; ἄ. φάτις unspoken rumour, A. Ag. 278; ἄπτερα πωτήματα wingless flight, Id. Eu. 250; ἄ. δρόμος, of the Trojan horse, v.l. in Tryph. 85.

ἄπτερος

ἄπτερος [ἀ-1 + πτερόν. Wingless.] Hence, that does not take to itself wings: τῇ δʼ ἀ. ἔπλετο μῦθος (she heard in silence) Od. 17.57 = Od. 19.29 = Od. 21.386 = Od. 22.398.
