ἐναντίος

1 Hom. downwds., neut. ἐναντίον as Adv., opposite, facing, ἐ. ὧδε κάλεσσον here to my face, Od. 17.544; εἰς ὦπα ἰδέσθαι ἐ. to look one in the face, 23.107; ἐ. προσβλέπειν τινά E. Hec. 968, etc.; γυναῖκας ἀνδρῶν μὴ βλέπειν ἐ. ib. 975: abs., D. 4.40, etc.: hence, like a Prep. c. gen., in the presence of, τῆς βουλῆς IG 1(2).91; τῶνδʼ ἐ. S. OC 1002; μαρτύρων ἐ. Ar. ὧδε

II hither, cf. ὅδε I: Aristarch. denied this usage in Hom. altogether (cf. Sch.A Il. 2.271, Apollon. Lex. s.v. ὧδε, A.D. Adv. 178.25, Eust. 792.2, al.); and most of the passages taken in this sense may be referred to signf. I.1 or 2, just as you see, v. supr. 1.2: but hither seems prob. in Od. 17.544, Il. 12.346, 10.537: examples of ὧδε, hither, are found in Trag. (esp. in S., as OT 7, 144, 298, OC 182 (lyr.), 841 (lyr.), 1206, 1547, Tr. 402); also in Com., as ἴτω τις ὧ. Ar. Av. 229 (lyr.); and later, as Herod. 1.49; χιλίας ὧ. καὶ χιλίας ὧδʼ ἐμβαλεῖν Id. 5.48; ὧ. χὦδε χασκεύσῃ Id. 4.42; ὧδε καὶ ὧδε this way and that, AP 5.128 ( Autom.): προσάγαγε ὧ. τὸν υἱόν σου Ev.Luc. 9.41.

ὧδε 1 In this way or manner, thus, so (often (and properly) referring to what concerns the speaker; cf. οὕτως) : ἀπειλήσω τοι ὧδε Il. 1.181, εἰ ἐριδαίνετον ὧδε 574, οὐ τότε γʼ ὧδʼ Ὀδυσῆος ἀγασσάμεθʼ εἶδος (as much as before) Il. 3.224, ὧδε γὰρ ἔβρισαν (so heavily do they bear upon us) Il. 12.346 (or this might come under (3)). Cf.
