γουνάζομαι

Ep. Verb, clasp anotherʼs knees (v. sub γόνυ I.2): hence, implore, entreat, abs., Il. 11.130: c. inf., τῶν ὕπερ . . γουνάζομαι οὐ παρεόντων ἑστάμεναι κρατερῶς in whose name . . γουνάζομαι [γουν-, γόνυ. To clasp the knees, clasp by the knees, in supplication. Cf. γόνυ 3.] Fut. γουνάσομαι Il. 1.427. To supplicate, entreat. Retaining the genitival construction of a vb. of taking hold, and with the construction extended to something appealed to: μή με γούνων γουνάζεο μηδὲ τοκήων Il. 22.345. With this latter construction alone: τῶν ὄπιθέν σε γουνάζομαι Od. 11.66. With prepositional clauses indicating what is appealed to: τῶν ὕπερ Il. 15.665. Cf. Od. 11.66, Od. 13.324. With simple acc. of the person entreated: γουνάσομαί μιν Il. 1.427. Absol. Il. 11.130.
