ἐγκατατίθημι

II Hom. only in Med., ἱμάντα τεῷ ἐγκάτθεο κόλπῳ put the band upon or round thy waist, Il. 14.219, cf. 223; ἄτην ἑῷ ἐγκάτθετο θυμῷ stored up, devised mischief in his heart, Od. 23.223; τελαμῶνα ἑῇ ἐγκάτθετο τέχνῃ stored up the belt in his art, designed it by his art, Od. 11.614; σὺ ταῦτα τεῷ ἐνικάτθεο θυμῷ store it up in thy heart, Hes. Op. 27; στέρνοις ἐγκατέθεντο Simon. 85.5; ὅκα φρεσὶν ἐγκατάθοιτο βουλάν Theoc. 17.14; γλυφίδας . . ἐνικάτθετο νευρῇ A.R. 3.282.

With dat.: τοῦτον ἱμάντα τεῷ κόλπῳ Il. 14.219. Cf. Il. 14.223. Fig.: ὃς κεῖνον τελαμῶνα ἑῇ ἐγκάτθετο τέχνῃ Od. 11.614 (put it into his invention, i.e. conceived the idea of it), τὴν ἄτην ἑῷ ἐγκάτθετο θυμῷ Od. 23.223 (took or admitted the illusion into her heart).

κεῖνος -η, -ο [cf. ἐκεῖνος, ἐκεῖθι, κεῖθεν, κεῖθι, κεῖσε.] 1 That person or thing, the person or thing referred to, he, she, it (with backward reference): κάρτιστοι δὴ κεῖνοι ἐπιχθονίων τράφεν ἀνρῶν Il. 1.266. Il. 5.604, κεῖνος ὅ γʼ ἧσται (there he sits) Il. 19.344, ἔτι κεῖνος κεῖται (there he lies) Il. 24.412:– ὡς νῦν Ἶρος κεῖνος ἧσται (is sitting there) Od. 18.239. 4 In contrast with a clause with ἐνθάδε σύας καὶ κεῖνα matters with the herd φυλάξων· σοὶ δʼ ἐνθάδε πάντα matters here μελόντων Od. 17.593. 5 With sb., that: ἤματι κείνῳ Il. 2.37, 482, Il. 4.543, Il. 18.324, Il. 21.517. τέχνη

τέχνη -ης, ἡ. 1 Skill, art, craftsmanship, cunning of hand : ἀνέρος, ὅς ῥά τε τέχνῃ νήϊον ἐκτάμνῃσιν Il. 3.61. Cf. Od. 3.433, Od. 6.234= Od. 23.161, Od. 11.614. Cunning, craft, wiles : οὐδʼ ὁ γέρων δολίης ἐπελήθετο τέχνης Od. 4.455. 2 A plot, a dark design : δολίην ἐφράσσατο τέχνην Od. 4.529. 3 In concrete sense, something cunningly contrived, a contrivance : τέχνας εἰσορόωσιν Ἡφαίστοιο Od. 8.327.
