ἀθέσφατος -ον [app. ἀ-1 + θέσφατος.] Thus, not suited to the utterance of a (beneficent) god; hence, portentous, terrible, terrifying: ὄμβρον Il. 3.4, Il. 10.6: ὤρινε θάλασσαν ἀθέσφατον (so that it became . . . ) Od. 7.273.
