ἐννεάπηχυς
ἐννεάπηχυς -υ [ἐννέα + πῆχυς in sense cubit.] Nine cubits long or in extent: ζυγόδεσμον Il. 24.270: ἐννεαπήχεες εὖρος (in . . .) Od. 11.311.
ἐννέωρος
ἐννέωρος [ἐννέα + ὥρη.] 1 Nine years old, at nine years old Od. 11.311. 2 App. (the number being taken as a round one) conveying the notion of full maturity, well matured, full-grown: ἀλείφατος Il. 18.351: βοός Od. 10.19, σιάλοισιν 390. 3 In Od. 19.179 (μίνως ἐ. βασίλευε Διὸς ὀαριστής) the reference seems to be to an eightyearly tenure of kingship. See Frazer, Golden Bough, 3 rd ed., Part iii. Od. 17.58 foll., esp. Od. 17.70. On the analogy of διὰ τρίτης ἡμέρας, every second day, and similar expressions, ἐ. is to be translated by terms of eight years, fresh kingly power being supposed to be imparted in converse with Zeus at the end of each term.
