      κατὰ πολλῶν ἢ πολλὰ καθ’ ἑνὸς λέγηται. ἡ δὲ παραγωγὴ τοιαύτη. εἰ δύο εἴη τινὰ ἄνισα, δίπηχυ
      φέρε εἰπεῖν καὶ <lb n="10"/> τρίπηχυ, ὅτι μὲν αὐτὸ ἑαυτῷ ἴσον ἐστί (τὸ γὰρ δίπηχυ αὐτὸ ἑαυτῷ
      ἴσον· ὁμοίως καὶ τὸ τρίπηχυ αὐτὸ ἑαυτῷ ἴσον), δῆλον. εἰ οὖν τις ἡμᾶς ἔροιτο, πότερον τὸ δίπηχυ
      καὶ τὸ τρίπηχυ ἴσα ἐστὶν ἢ οὔ, φήσομεν δὲ ἢ ναὶ ἢ οὔ, συμβήσεται ἴσα καὶ ἄνισα εἶναι αὐτὰ
      ἑαυτοῖς· εἰ γὰρ ἴσον τὸ δίπηχυ τῷ τριπήχει, ἔσται τὸ δίπηχυ τρίπηχυ, ὥστε καὶ ἄνισον αὐτὸ <lb n="15"/> ἑαυτῷ καὶ μεῖζον καὶ ἔλαττον, εἴπερ τὸ τρίπηχυ μεῖζον τοῦ διπήχεος. ἔστι δὲ ἡ λύσις
      τοῦ σοφίσματος παρὰ τὸ τὰ πλείω ἐρωτήματα ἓν ποιεῖν. λέγει δὲ ἐμπίπτειν τούτους καὶ εἰς ἄλλας
      λύσεις, οἷον εἰς τὴν ἀμφιβολίαν· τὸ γὰρ ἐρωτᾶν, πότερον ἄμφω ταῦτα ἢ πάντα ταῦτα ἴσα ἐστὶν ἢ
      ἄνισα, καὶ ἀμφίβολόν ἐστι. δύναται γάρ τις ἀκούειν τοῦ ἐρωτήματος ἢ <lb n="20"/> ὡς λέγοντος
      ‘ἆρά γε ἴσα ἀλλήλοις ἐστίν;’ ἢ ὡς ‘ἴσα αὐτὰ ἑαυτοῖς;’· ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ ‘ἆρά γε ἄνισα ἑαυτοῖς
      εἰσιν;’ ἢ ‘ἄνισα πρὸς ἄλληλα;‘. οὔκουν, φησίν, ἐπὶ τῶν ἀμφιβόλων ἢ ἐπὶ τῶν πλείω ἐρωτώντων
      ταὐτόν, τουτέστι τὸ αὐτὸ πρᾶγμα φάσκει καὶ ἀποφάσκει, ἀλλὰ τὸ αὐτὸ ὄνομα κατ’ ἄλλου καὶ ἀπ’
      ἄλλου τῶν ὑπὸ τὸ ὄνομα. τοῦτο δὲ οὐκ ἔλεγχος· ὁ γὰρ ἔλεγχος <lb n="25"/> γίνεται, ὅταν
      συμβαίνῃ τὸ αὐτὸ | πρᾶγμα κατὰ τοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἑνὸς f. 57v πράγματος ἅμα λέγεσθαι καὶ μὴ
      λέγεσθαι ἐκ τῆς τοῦ ἀποκρινομένου θέσεως. τὸ δὲ ἀλλὰ φανερὸν ὅτι μὴ μιᾶς ἐρωτήσεως καὶ τὰ ἑξῆς
      τοιοῦτόν ἐστιν, ὅτι οὐ μὴ συμβήσεται τὸ ἀδύνατον, ἤγουν ὁ ἔλεγχος, ἂν μὴ ποιήσῃ τις τὰ πολλὰ
      μίαν ἐρώτησιν ἀλλ’ ἓν καθ’ ἑνὸς εἴπῃ, ἤγουν &lt;ἓν&gt; <lb n="30"/> κατηγορούμενον καθ’ ἑνὸς
      ὑποκειμένου· εἰ γὰρ ἓν καθ’ ἑνὸς εἴπῃ, οὐ μὴ δυνήσεται ἐλέγξαι τὸν ἀποκρινόμενον ὁ σοφιστής. ἢ
      καὶ οὕτως· φανερόν, φησίν, ὅτι μὴ μιᾶς ἐρωτήσεως γινομένης κατὰ τῶν πολλῶν ἀλλ’ ἑνὸς πράγματος
